Family Counselling

Support for parents, caregivers, partners, and loved ones of individuals who have experienced sexual abuse or sexual assault. This service is designed to help you better understand how trauma can affect a person emotionally, psychologically, and relationally, and how it may also impact the family system as a whole.

In counselling, you are supported in learning about trauma responses, including how they may show up in communication, emotions, behaviour, or relationships. This understanding can help reduce confusion and uncertainty, and support you in responding in ways that feel more informed, grounded, and compassionate.

Family counselling also provides space for you to process your own emotional experience. Learning that someone you care about has experienced sexual abuse or sexual assault can bring up a wide range of feelings, including concern, sadness, confusion, or helplessness. In this space, your own responses are acknowledged and supported, while keeping the focus on creating safety and stability for the survivor.

Together, we work on strengthening communication within the family system, improving understanding between loved ones, and developing ways of offering support that are safe, respectful, and trauma-informed. When appropriate and with the survivor’s consent, sessions may also include guided conversations together to help build connection, trust, and emotional safety.

The overall goal of family counselling is to support healing not only for the individual, but within the relationships around them—helping create an environment where understanding, safety, and support can grow over time.
