Different Services, Different Stages of Healing.
When someone experiences sexual violence, support can be needed at many different points along their healing journey.
Some survivors need immediate crisis support, safety planning, medical or legal information, advocacy, or connection to community resources. Others may seek therapy months or years later as they continue to process the lasting impacts of what happened.
Both types of support are important.
They simply serve different purposes.
The Role of Sexual Assault Centres
Sexual Assault Centres provide essential community-based services for survivors of sexual violence. Many centres offer publicly funded supports designed to make care accessible, including crisis intervention, short-term counselling, support groups, advocacy, referrals, and accompaniment services. These services play a vital role in helping survivors feel supported, believed, and connected to resources during and after a traumatic experience
What Is Different About Specialized Sexual Trauma Counselling at Beyond Crisis™
Beyond Crisis™ is the Specialty Trauma Counselling Clinic at NJCCS, focused on the longer-term healing that can continue after the immediate crisis has passed. For many survivors, healing does not end once they are safe or once the initial crisis is over. The effects of sexual trauma can continue to impact emotions, relationships, self-worth, trust, identity, and daily life. Beyond Crisis™ provides specialized trauma-informed counselling for teenage girls, women, couples, and families affected by sexual violence.
Our focus is on the deeper therapeutic work of recovery, including processing traumatic experiences, understanding the impacts of trauma, rebuilding safety and trust, strengthening relationships, and reconnecting with a sense of self.
Why Specialized Sexual Trauma Counselling Matters
Sexual trauma can affect people in complex and deeply personal ways. Survivors may carry experiences that are difficult to talk about, understand, or process without specialized support.
Beyond Crisis™ was created to provide a dedicated space for this work—one that recognizes that healing is not only about surviving what happened, but also about rebuilding, growing, and creating a meaningful life beyond trauma.
Supporting Survivors Beyond the Crisis
Sexual Assault Centres and specialized sexual trauma counselling clinics both have important roles in supporting survivors. One does not replace the other.
For those who need immediate crisis support, advocacy, or community-based resources, Sexual Assault Centres provide essential services.
For those seeking specialized, longer-term counselling focused on the ongoing impacts of sexual trauma, Beyond Crisis™ offers a dedicated clinical space for healing.
Beyond Crisis™ exists because healing doesn't end when the crisis is over. For many survivors, that's where a different stage of recovery begins.
Beyond Crisis™ is the Online Specialty Clinic for Sexual Trauma Counselling at NJCCS.
